The Hokkaido Fair (also called “The Hokkai Shokudo”) is a 4-day celebration of the food of Japan’s northernmost prefecture. Well known for potatoes, dairy and meat, the region has enough speciality dishes to keep you busy for days, so make sure you arrive hungry.
As an incentive to bargain hunters, if you get there early you could get a bunch of dishes that are normally 1,000yen for 300yen. The 300-yen deal is limited to the first 50 orders from each of the 35 food vendors—the early bird most definitely gets the worm!
Organizers report that nearly 600,000 people attended the festival in previous years so popular is an understatement.
