Since its inception in 1956, the CWAJ Print Show has become a highly acclaimed and internationally recognized event. Entering its seventh decade, the annual juried show relocates this year to the light-filled gallery space at Hillside Terrace in Daikanyama, a leafy upscale neighborhood vibrant with art galleries, stylish cafes and restaurants.
The 61st CWAJ Print Show features 209 prints, all but a few produced after 2015, by 203 renowned artists—including 29 first-time CWAJ Print Show exhibitors. The exhibition encompasses a wide range of styles, themes and techniques such as woodblock, intaglio, lithography and silkscreen. Prices range from ¥5,000 to ¥300,000. Young talent is well represented in this comprehensive show along with masterpieces by dozens of the Japanese printmaking scene, including a rare new lithograph by Toko Shinoda.
Proceeds from the CWAJ Print Show will go to CWAJ Scholarship and Fukushima Relief Projects.
The College Women’s Association of Japan is a not-for-profit volunteer women’s organization of approximately 450 members from 20 countries. The CWAJ Print Show, a major fundraiser, has provided more than 800 scholarships to date.
