Fifty years after its hit debut, Black Jack will have its own exhibition at the Sogo Museum of Art in Yokohama. Come and see the stunning work of Tezuka Osamu and how he made a medical drama into a beloved manga for all ages.

What to expect

With 243 chapters, Black Jack is a prolific but deeply meaningful manga with a dedicated cult audience. At this exhibition, you’ll get a chance to delve into not just the artwork, but the meaning behind Tezuka Osamu’s work. Split into four separate areas, there are iconic scenes and pieces of art from the most gripping moments.

Take a deep dive into Osamu’s background and design ideas. This includes the novel attempt to print a medical manga marketed to boys and young men. Explore the challenges Osamu faced in making his vision a reality and see how his own medical experiences are reflected in Black Jack.

Tickets

Tickets to the exhibition can be purchased online through the event website, or in person at the museum ticket office. However you book, if you buy in advance, you’ll get a ¥200 discount on your tickets.

Tickets on the day cost ¥1,600 for adults, ¥1,400 for students in high school or older, and are free for younger children.

How to get there

The Black Jack Exhibition will be held at the Sogo Museum of Art in Yokohama. The museum is in the Sogo Building, directly connected to Yokohama Station. So the quickest way to get there is to take one of the many lines available and walk through the underground tunnel.
