Chichibu Festival and Oiran Dochu Procession

12:00pm – 7:00pm
Free

Fill up on food at this local festival in Chichibu while also feasting your eyes on traditional Japanese performances, such as an Oiran Dochu — a reenactment of a Japanese courtesan procession.

What to expect

This is your chance to hop from stall to shop to premium dining in Chichibu, a city in Saitama Prefecture to the north of Tokyo. There will be three days of gorging on snacks for all budgets, from savory taiyaki to pumpkin tiramisu. Try deep-fried pork cutlet for only ¥100 and ¥500 a pizza.

If you aren’t peckish, then feed your soul with traditional performances in Chichibu Shrine on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or watch the Oiran walk down Banba Street on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and again at 3 p.m.

How to get there

Most of the food and festivities will take place either in Chichibu Shrine or on the road leading up to it. To get there, take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line Limited Express from Ikebukuro Station for 1 hour and 15 minutes to Seibu-Chichibu Station. The shrine is around a 15-minute walk from the station.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
