Doge Day 2024

11:30am – 4:20pm
Free

Kabosu, otherwise known as doge, was the face of one of the most prolific memes on the internet and was beloved around the world. This year she sadly passed away at the estimated age of 18, but her legacy will not be forgotten — head to Doge Day in Chiba to celebrate her life and watch an attempt at a Guinness World Record.

What to expect

Sakura Furusato Square will be filled with dog and meme lovers. The mayor of Sakura City and Atsuko, Kabosu’s owner, will make speeches and there will be an attempt at a Guinness World Record for the most dogs brushing their teeth simultaneously. Food trucks will also appear.

If you’re really dedicated, you can also head to parties in Tokyo before and after the event, where you may get a chance to meet other meme legends…

In 2023, a bronze statue of Kabosu was revealed at Doge Day, and Tay Zonday (anyone remember Chocolate Rain?) made an appearance. In 2024, a manhole cover was also unveiled featuring Kabosu.

Entry

Doge Day is a free event and no tickets are required — we confirmed with the organizer that you can just turn up on the day.

How to get there

Take a Keisei Main Line train from Keisei Ueno Station — yes, this is the same line as the cheap trains to Narita Airport — to Keisei Sakura Station. This will take a little less than an hour on the fastest train. (All mainline trains stop at Sakura.)

From Keisei Sakura Station there are a few options to get to the park: a 10-minute taxi, a 10-minute bus, a rental cycle, or a 40-minute walk. Rental cycles can be found outside the south exit of Keisei Sakura Station, first come first served, for ¥600 a day.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
