Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition

9:30am – 5:00pm
¥1,800 (advance sales)¥2,000 (on the door)

Everyone’s favorite cartoon cat (or girl) has taken over Tokyo, and for good reason, to celebrate her 50th anniversary.

What to expect

At this exhibition, you’ll have the chance to see the largest collection of Hello Kitty memorabilia ever displayed. From retro plushies to newer collaborative artworks of Kitty, there’s half a century’s worth of stuff to explore.

There will also be fun photo spots and videos of Kitty to enjoy. One of the most notable displays is the collaboration between Tokyo National Museum and Hello Kitty where she will appear in some of Japan’s most famous pieces of artwork such as Wind God and Thunder God.

Shop limited-edition merchandise that has been specially designed for this anniversary. Goods include totes, plushies, and pin badges. The merchandise has already been proven to be super popular.

Tickets

This is a paid exhibition and you can either buy tickets beforehand or on the day. Given the popularity of this event, we would highly recommend purchasing in advance — both to avoid disappointment and some money. You can buy tickets from a variety of ticket services including Klook.

Advance tickets cost ¥1,800 for adults, ¥1,600 for college students, ¥1,400 for Junior high school students, and ¥800. Same-day tickets are ¥200 more.

How to get to the Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition

This exhibition is happening at Tokyo National Museum in Ueno. The quickest way to get here is to take the JR Yamanote Line to Ueno Station. From there it is a 10-minute walk to the museum from the Park Exit.
