One of the biggest Hinamatsuri — Dolls’, or Girls’, Day — events in Japan, The Katsuura Big Hinamatsuri sees around 4,000 traditional Japanese dolls set up around Katsuura City.
What happens?
There will be three main event venues to see: about 2,000 dolls on the steps leading up to Tomisaki Shrine, a large display outside the Kakuoji Temple gate, and another display at the Sumina Intersection.
How to get there
Tomisaki Shrine is around a 10-minute walk from Katsuura Station on the JR Sotobo Line. There are direct limited-express trains every few hours from Tokyo Station (1 hour 26 minutes).
Limited-express train
There will also be one limited-express direct train service from Shinjuku and Akihabara. It takes nearly two hours and all seats are reserved. You need to book via Ekinet (Japanese only). Details here.
