This is a chance to see fireflies in an unlikely urban setting: in the "wilds" of Kugayama in Suginami Ward. While there won't be clouds of glowing bugs, you will be able to spot a few. If you've given up, there are also plenty of firefly-themed events happening around the neighborhood. What happens? As you may expect, the time of naturally occurring fireflies has passed in Tokyo, so these fireflies are being released into the area. There will be two main venues to catch (not literally) sight of the fireflies -- Kanda River and Tamagawa Aqueduct near Kugayama Station -- but there will be other opportunities to see them at Kugayama Inari Shrine, too. The two days will feature a bunch of other activities to check out while you're there, like caligraphy, rakugo comedy, balloon performances, and various workshops, as well as market stalls from local shops and restaurants.
