Snow Bank Pay It Forward

In the event square at Yoyogi Park, snow will be trucked in and a slope with a rail down the middle for snowboarders constructed.

The event apparently has the dual purposes of increasing interest in snowboarding and raising awareness of becoming a bone marrow donor.

The event runs from 8:30am until 3:50pm. Closest stations are Harajuku/Meijijingumae on the JR, Chiyoda and Fukutoshin lines and Yoyogi Koen on the Chiyoda Line.

I was a bit disappointed in this. I got there near the end, so I only got to see maybe the last 2 minutes of the snowboarding demo. Still, the ramp was a lot smaller than I imagined, as was the surface of the snow. (There was definitely not enough snow for a snowman. Nothing like in the picture.) Though it was a sunny day, so maybe most of the snow had already melted by the time I got there, I don’t know. It was worth it for the fruit giveaway.

Yolanda, really sorry if the photo was misleading – our assistant grabbed it from a search on ‘snow at Yoyogi Park’ which was from after an actual mid-winter snow fall in Yoyogi Park. As you probably discovered, SBPIF is more of a snowboarding demo. We’ll try to use a more accurate photo in future.
