Get that shot of hydrangeas (ajisai in Japanese) framing a pagoda while enjoying some typical matsuri (festival) food and events.
What happens?
Every year the temple grounds of Takahata Fudōson come alive with pinks, purples, and blues for the month of June. The grounds have more than 7500 flowers and hundreds of types. Taking place in the rainy season, the event doesn’t always have the best weather, but hydrangea petals do shine after a rainstorm.
Schedule 2024
There will be several events including a tea reception (¥500 per cup) on certain dates, as well as a judo and karate tournament, a haiku competition, and a flea market on June 9.
How to get there
The grounds are a 5-minute walk from Takahatafudō Station on the Keio Line and Tama Urban Monorail. You can get there directly from Shinjuku Station in 40 minutes.
