One of the most Christmassy Christmas markets out there, this event is the real deal. For 2024, it will be held at Meiji Jingu Gaien.
What happens?
Sponsored by the German Embassy and the German Tourism Association, you can expect plenty of delicious food and German-themed gift ideas, as well as some warming wines. There will be live music to fill you with Christmas spirit as you browse and all the bright lights and Christmas trees you could hope for. The market also displays one of the world’s largest Christmas pyramids and VIP domes.
Note: The first day will begin at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 11 a.m.
Ice skating rink
For the first time, the market will also include a skating rink, featuring resin ice. It is open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day. On the weekdays, adults cost ¥1,500 and children ¥800. On the weekends and holidays, adults cost ¥2,000 and children ¥1,000.
Tickets
The price changes depending on the day.
- November 19: ¥2,000 for adults, ¥1,000 for children
- November 20 to December 20: ¥1,000 for adults on weekdays and ¥1,500 on weekends/holidays, ¥500 for children
- December 23 to December 25: ¥2,000 for adults, ¥1,000 for children
If you buy tickets in advance, you will also get a free mug that you can use when purchasing hot drinks. There will be some tickets available on the day, but this is a popular event, so advanced reservations are recommended — plus you won’t get the free mug.
How to get there
The Christmas market will be held at Meiji Jingū Gaien Baseball Field. It’s a short walk from Meiji Jingu Gaien Autumn Leaves Avenue, so a good idea to combine the two when the leaves start turning. Get there in 10 minutes from Gaienmae Station and Aoyama-itchome Station or 5 minutes from Shinanomachi Station and Kokuritsu-Kyogijo Station.
