Tokyo Manhole Digital Rally

Tokyo is filled with interesting and unique manhole covers — just take a look at our guide dedicated on the subject.

Get a tour of these manholes and explore all 62 municipalities and wards at the same time by participating in a digital stamp rally. You can also win points and prizes — or just compete with your friends.

How it works

First, you’ll need to use your phone to access the website and input your number for authorization.

After that you can use this map to hunt for your desired manhole (we enjoy Godzilla, but you can also spot Hello Kitty and town mascots). GPS will recognize where you are and you just need to “stamp” on the website.

What can I win?

The points vary depending on the area; the farther away, the more points you’ll get.

As well as downloadable content, you have a chance to win a tour of a manhole cover factory (yes, that’s a thing), calendar, coasters, and notebook.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
