Hakone Sekisho Checkpoint is a historical site located in Hakone, Japan along the Old Tokaido Road.
During the Edo period, this checkpoint served as a major gateway between Tokyo and Kyoto and was responsible for inspecting travelers, collecting taxes, and preventing smuggling. The current reconstruction of the checkpoint was completed in 2007, using traditional building methods and materials to ensure its authenticity. It resembles an old Edo town.
Visitors can walk along the faux town’s streets and see various shops, inns, and other buildings. The experience provides a fascinating glimpse into life in Japan during the Edo period.
