Shokaku-ji is a Nichiren-sect Buddhist temple that was established in 1619.
The temple has a relatively large cemetery within the grounds. Buddhist temples derive a significant proportion of their revenue from conducting funeral rites and ceremonies for the dead. Judging by the grand, well maintained buildings and structures, it looks like Shokaku-ji does particularly well from this line of business!
When not in the middle of a funeral, you’re free to explore the temple grounds. The huge gingkos make for a spectacular sight in late autumn/early winter.
