It's on everyone's Japan bucket list -- teamLab is the iconic art collective that has garnered global recognition. Most people have heard of teamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM and teamLab Planets TOKYO, but did you know there are many more teamLab exhibitions across Japan? In no particular order, here are all of them -- or almost all of them, anyway. New and temporary ones pop up from time to time, and others close. Want to know more about Tokyo's best museums? What you need to know about teamLab As an international art collective, teamLab works to blend art, science, technology, and the natural world together to push the boundaries between art and the human experience. The collective are also interested in "Environmental Phenomena", creating artwork through the environment of the exhibition, without causing harm to it. In an interview with Pen Magazine in 2018, founder of teamLab, Toshiyuki Inoko, expressed how "through the blurring of the borders between people and artworks, the viewers themselves become part of those works, and their relationship with 'the other' starts to change as well." Through its innovation and technology, teamLab has gone global, with exhibitions in Beijing, Singapore, Florida, New York, and Jeddah -- among other locations. How many teamLab exhibitions are there in Japan? As of the time of writing, we counted 24 permanent teamLab exhibitions in Japan. You might be surprised to hear that there are so many -- but a large number of them are single public-art displays, rather than full-scale exhibitions. And knowing teamLab, we might have even missed a few! Although the majority of these stay "permanent" for a while, teamLab often changes exhibitions around every few years. For instance, the cute teamLab: Resonating Life in the Acorn Forest in Saitama closed in 2024 after 4 years, and currently teamLab Planets is scheduled to close in 2027. teamLab has teased that a new museum will be opening sometime in the future in Kyoto. Also, there are a lot of temporary exhibitions, so we recommend checking the official website to see what is currently on display. teamLab in Tokyo Here are the various teamLab exhibitions in Tokyo. teamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM ~ (dynamic pricing system) Azabudai Hills, Tokyo Buy tickets Where it all started, teamLab Borderless originally opened in 2018 and is widely regarded as helping to popularize the immersive use of art. Its concept revolves around "artwork without boundaries", meaning the art is constantly in motion and changing in real time. One moment, you will see a flower bloom and then next, the environment changing and rain falling. After undergoing a makeover and getting a new home, Borderless reopened in 2024 with even more mesmerizing digital displays and interactive experiences. There are over 70 moving artworks to admire, with some of the highlights including Microcosmoses – Wobbling Light, Bubble Universe, and A Rock Where People Gather. Another feature of this teamLab is the EN TEA HOUSE, where you can watch your tea come to life, as flowers blossom from it. Here's a reel from when we visited in 2024. Given its immense popularity, slots for Borderless sell out weeks in advance. That's why we recommend buying your tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment. teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM to Toyosu, Tokyo Buy tickets Winning the Guiness World Record for the "Most Visited Museum (Single Art Group)" proves just how popular, and iconic, teamLab Planets is. Compared to Borderless, Planets offers a more immersive, sensory experience -- engaging your whole body. As you explore the four indoor and two outdoor exhibition spaces, you'll walk barefoot and, at times, find yourself partially submerged in water. Here's what we saw when we visited in January, 2025. MoonFlower Sagaya Ginza Ginza, Tokyo Make a reservation This teamLab restaurant in Tokyo is a premium culinary experience where art meets exquisite cuisine. At MoonFlower Sagaya in Ginza, you can indulge in a luxury nine-course menu inspired by the concept of "turning high-quality seasonal ingredients into delicious dishes". The course menu only happens once a day at 7:00 p.m. and it is limited to eight guests. As the waiter places your dishes on the table, they will come alive as birds fly, fish swim, and flowers bloom. You'll also see the seasons change right before your eyes. It's quite the meal. teamLab art exhibitions in Tokyo teamLab also has a number of single art displays and installations which many people may not know about. Check the official website for more details. teamLab in Osaka Here are the teamLab exhibitions in Osaka. teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka ~ for adults, ~ for children, disability discount ~, free for preschool children (dynamic pricing system) Nagai Botanical Garden, Osaka Buy tickets A "Digitized Nature" exhibit, this teamLab is located at the Nagai Botanical Garden in Osaka. Displayed only at night, the artwork here is influenced by the trees and birds, and can be transformed by the wind, rain, and those who interact with it. Each installation symbolizes the connection between the physical body and nature. The artwork is continuous and fluid, blending seamlessly with its surrounding environment to showcase this connection. Here's what we saw when we visited in 2023. teamLab: Field of Wind, Rain and Sun to Higashiosaka, Osaka Buy tickets (Scheduled to open in Early May) There isn't just one teamLab exhibit in Osaka -- there is also teamLab: Field of Wind, Rain and Sun. Inspired by nature and the elements, this exhibit is set in an industrial-lot-turned-greenspace, and can only be experienced by visiting the on-site café. Some of the installations are only displayed during the day, and some at night -- meaning your experience will differ depending on when you visit. This is due to the nature of the elements and how they work with the art. For instance, "Enso of the Sun" is only displayed at midday, when the sun is at its highest point. For the classic teamLab-esque atmosphere, you may prefer to go at night when you can see artworks including "Ephemeral Crystallized Rain". At the café, you can enjoy aesthetic desserts while watching your tea glow, echoing the surrounding artwork. The menu changes seasonally, aligning with the exhibit's theme of nature's transformation. teamLab public art exhibitions in Osaka Universe of Water Particles: DOJIMA RIVER FORUM, Osaka Gold Waves: Osaka University Arts, Osaka Spatial Calligraphy, Reversible Rotation and Crane - Itami Blue Light, Day & Night: Osaka International Airport (Itami) SAKURA LOUNGE, Osaka teamLab in Fukuoka Here's where to see teamLab art in Fukuoka. teamLab Fukuoka Forest - SBI SECURITIES Co., Ltd. for adults, for high school students (in Japan), for children, disability discount Fukuoka, Kyushu Buy tickets Ideal for families with young children, teamLab Forest Fukuoka has a strong animals and athletics theme. Divided into two sections, "Catching and Collecting Forest" and an "Athletics Forest", visitors use their smartphones to capture creatures and study them in an interactive world. Forest aims to be educational, and is focused on building spatial awareness. Some of the artworks in this teamLab are similar to those in Borderless and Planets. However, there are a few that can only be seen here. Pro tip: Given that some sections of this museum are like a glow-in-the-dark obstacle course, you should refrain from wearing high heels or sandals. teamLab Public art exhibitions in Fukuoka Spatial Calligraphy, Reversible Rotation and Crane - Fukuoka Gold Light, Day & Night: Fukuoka Airport Domestic Terminal JAL DP, Sakura Lounge, Fukuoka Other teamLab exhibitions in Japan There are a number of other teamLab exhibitions and artworks across Japan. Experience nature from a new perspective as former rice terraces, now marshland, are illuminated in vibrant colors. As part of this journey, you can walk through an expansive forest and see crashing waves lit up in hues of pink and blue. This project, which teamLab once again refers to as "Digitized Nature", aims to demonstrate how nature can be transformed into art without causing harm. It aims to create a space where humans can connect not only with nature, but also with the continuity of time and life. teamLab: A Forest Where Gods Live Jul 18 - Nov 03, 2025 Takeo Hot Springs, Saga Buy tickets Utilizing the 500,000m2 Mifuneyama Rakuen Park, "A Forest Where Gods Live" brings tradition and natural wonders to life in an extraordinary way. Outdoors, the forest, rocks, and caves come alive with dynamic lighting. Get lost in the captivating installations, which include a projection of colorful koi swimming on the surface of the Mifuenyama Rakuen Pond. Also featured are the "Ever Blossoming Life Rock", and a massive rock formation featuring a virtual, 3D waterfall. Inside the Bath House Ruins, you'll stumble upon "Megaliths" -- 3D masses in a constant state of transformation. Tap into your creativity through the interactive installation "Graffiti Nature", where you can draw creatures and contribute to the evolving ecosystem. With countless other installations to explore, this teamLab exhibition stands out as one of the most enchanting. Note: This is an annual exhibition, which takes place from July to November. However, you can experience the teamLab Ruins and Heritage section all year round. teamLab Ruins and Heritage: Rinkan Spa & Tea Ceremony - GC for adults, for children, and free for ages 5 and younger Takeo Hot Springs, Saga Buy tickets Ever wanted to experience art and a sauna at the same time? You can at the Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel Rakan Bath. In the teamLab Ruins and Heritage exhibit, you can admire works of art like "Megaliths in the Bath House Ruins", "Flowers Bombing in the Bath House Ruins" and "Light Sculpture of Flames". For the bathing experience, you can enjoy beautifully hot saunas filled with steam made from natural water sourced from Mt. Mifune. The open-air bath and bathing space also let you connect with the surrounding nature. Note: To experience both the sauna and the exhibition, you will need a combination ticket for the day trip to Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel. You can also purchase tickets for just the exhibition. Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel Free for Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel guests Takeo Hot Springs, Saga This installation is located inside Mifuneyama Rakuen Hotel, and can only be seen (for free) by its guests. The main artwork, titled "Forest and Spiral of Resonating Lamps - One Stroke", includes lamps which glow different colors. Just like many of the other teamLab installations, how you interact with the art changes its state. For instance, when a person stands close to a lamp, it shines brighter and emits a sound. Beneath the lamps, you can sit and sip on some Japanese tea and traditional desserts. teamLab Gallery Matama Beach for university students and above, for elementary school students Oita, Kyushu Buy tickets Inspired by the beauty and life of flowers, this installation consists of a walkway and a large (infinite) open space. As you interact with the flowers, you can see them bud, grow, and blossom, before their petals wither away. It continuously changes, meaning that a previous visual state is never replicated. It is a perfect visualization of the idea that a specific moment can never be lived again. teamLab Future Park Okinawa for adults, for 13 - 17 years old, for 4 - 12 years old, for disability discount Naha, Okinawa Buy tickets Future Park is an interactive "amusement park" that people of all ages will love, especially children. There are lots of bright spaces to explore, with many of them --such as the "Sketch Aquarium: Connected World" and "Graffiti Nature in a Beating Valley" -- giving visitors the chance to use their imagination and creativity. Similar to Forest, you can interact with floral animals and a Light Ball Orchestra. Playground elements such as the Fruit-themed Slide, Waterfall Droplets Slope, and Hopscotch for Geniuses add to the fun. There are also musical elements which will spark children's curiosity, and maybe adults' too.
