The Furusato Matsuri offers a smorgasbord of regional cuisines hailing from Hokkaido all the way down to Okinawa. And don’t miss the chance to catch renowned cultural festivals that will be recreated (like the famous Aomori Nebuta Festival)—a great experience if you don’t have the funds to actually visit these places throughout the year. All conveniently located under one roof: Tokyo Dome. Earth Garden Winter Festival (Jan 20-21): This is a two-day outdoor market at Yoyogi Park where the food, workshops, and products being offered all promote ecological living—so you can feel good about going and also what you bring home. The park’s event square will also have a stream of musical performances spanning both days. Shibuya International – Dance Party (Jan 20): An international dance party in Shibuya with DJs and free finger foods. Mention the discount code "Cold Coffee" at the door and it’s 1,500 yen nomihodai (all you can drink) OR 500 yen entry and includes 1 drink—otherwise you'll be paying full price. The Oedo Antique Market (Jan 21): A cheapo favorite, Japan’s biggest outdoor market in Japan is back at the Tokyo International Forum. It’s a great spot for finding unique souvenirs, decorating your apartment on a shoestring, or even just strolling around outdoors. The market will be canceled in case of rain through, so keep an eye on the forecast. Live from the Kitchen Disco (Dec 21): There’s another killer line-up for this month’s free showcase of all the best talent in Tokyo. Featuring a combination of Japanese and international bands, you can be sure of a great night of music. There’s also a great menu with Indian food, beers and more beers—what more could you want? New Year Sumo Tournament (Jan 14-28): It comes with a price tag, but you may want to catch a match at the Grand Sumo Tournament, which only comes around three times a year in Tokyo.
