About once a month, the jazz club Motion Blue in Yokohama holds a free concert. Motion Blue, which is part of the Blue Note family, is a somewhat swanky jazz venue and restaurant in the Red Brick Warehouse in Minato Mirai. This month, club jazz act The Fascinations does their thing. Two shows a night, at 7 and 9 p.m., and reservations are required (but we’ve never had trouble booking a seat).

Since it usually costs at least 3000 yen to go to a show here, this is a good chance to get a taste of a great date-night spot and see some free music. You will be seated at a tablecloth-and-wine-glasses table with be-suited waitstaff, and there is something of an expectation that you will order something (though we can’t find anything saying that it is required). Have a glass of wine (starting around 800 yen) or some appetizers (starting around 5-600 yen, ha!) and enjoy!
