There's no train in sight at this ekiben tournament near Shinagawa. Ekiben, the combination of eki (station) and bentō (lunchbox), are highly popular in Japan. They're usually eaten on a long train journey to somewhere far off and exciting. But this time, the ekiben are making the journey from all over Japan to Tokyo. There will be 40 kinds of ekiben set up on Nakanobu Slip Road. Prices start at and go up to for the premium bentō (specialty beef tongue, anyone?). Sales start from 11 a.m. and it is sure to get crowded, but if you are into regional bentō or ekiben, this is the place to be.
