For a tucked-away, tranquil cherry blossom festival with traditional trappings, head to southern Tokyo for the Magome Writers’ Village Cherry Blossom Festival.
What happens?
This peppy cherry blossom festival is small but packs a punch of tradition. On top of the cherry trees, there are dance performances from local volunteers, including classic Nagashi and Awa dances. And if you get peckish, like all the best festivals, there’ll be food and drinks stalls for those matsuri munchies.
How to get there
The Magome Writers’ Village Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at Sakuranamiki Park in Minamimagome. The quickest way there is a 12-minute walk from Nishi-Magome Station on the Tokyo Metro Asakusa Line.
