Ukiyo-e is one of Japan’s most iconic art forms — there’s almost no one who wouldn’t recognize masterpieces like Hokusai’s Great Wave. Now you can see ukiyo-e done like never before, on the sides of Tokyo’s skyscrapers at the Marunouchi Ukiyo-e Projection Mapping.
What to expect
The Marunouchi Ukiyo-e Projection Mapping will be displayed on two buildings near Tokyo Station. The Marunouchi building will feature the six great artists of ukiyo-e, a tribute to the masters of the style. Meanwhile, the Yurakucho ITOCIA building will have art themed around nature, with birds, flowers, and the moon featuring prominently.
The Marunouchi displays will run in cycles of 15 minutes, with 10 minutes of display time followed by a 5-minute break. This will start from 6 p.m. and continue until 8:45 p.m. Meanwhile, the ITOCIA displays will run in 10-minute cycles, with 5 minutes of display time and then a 5-minute break. These will start at 6:30 p.m. and finish at 8:50 p.m.
