Take a break from shopping or train-hopping with a few minutes under the almost offensively-bright lights of Shinjuku’s winter illuminations. This year’s theme is ‘colour’ – so each area will have a different one…. which is possibly not worth the title of a ‘theme’. There will be Christmas trees dotted through the station area, brightly-lit walls, some dazzling pink lights and glowing inherently festive displays. While the area will be illuminated from 5pm for the majority of the time, during December it will begin at 4.30pm – always ending at midnight.
