Tokyo Otsuka Awa Odori

Free

Held every summer since 1972, this year the Tokyo Otsuka Awa Odori will celebrate its 49th event.

What happens?

Over 1,000 performers dance through Minami-Otsuka Street, with Shinshi-ren, a group of dancers known for their powerful dance style, performing the opening ceremony.

As the main festival commences, enjoy watching several talented dance troupes enthusiastically chant, sing, and dance their way down Minami-Otsuka Street in their traditional Obon outfits. Locals of all ages take part in bringing the community spirit to life.

Schedule 2023

On August 25, the evening before the main festival, there will be an event starting at 5 p.m. at the Minami Otsuka Hall where you can see a number of performances. This is a ticketed event.

The main festival will then take place on August 26 at 5 p.m. on Minami-Otsuka Street, located south of Otsuka Station. If you end up arriving earlier, there will be special performances around Otsuka Station Square (South Exit) from around 4 p.m.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
