Hottarakashi Onsen has stunning mountaintop views, which include Mt. Fuji in all her glory on clear days. But you do need a car to get there from Tokyo.

But the huge, tiered, open-air baths make it worth the trip. There is also a food stall famous for deep-fried onsen eggs. They’re absolutely delicious, so be sure to try one when you’re there.
