Ikegami Honmonji is the main temple of the Nichiren Shu Buddhist sect and is said to have been founded on the place where Nichiren—the founder—died.
The temple hall and a nearby pagoda occupy the top of a hill which is a short walk from Ikegami Station on the Tokyu Ikegami Line.
In October each year, the temple and the approach from the station is venue to the O-Eshiki Festival, in which large elaborate lanterns known as mandō are carried through the streets.
