Located just outside the village of Sawara, Katori Shrine is the head shrine for a network of 400 shrines called “Katori Shrine” throughout Japan.
It was purportedly founded 2600 years ago, which makes its founding contemporaneous with the rise of a small city kingdom called Rome.
The deity said to be enshrined within, is Futsunushi-no-Ookami, the god of family safety, business, marriage, fertility and childbirth.
