On the banks of Tama River, to the edge of western Tokyo, is Okutama. Many groups flock to this area in summer to escape the heat of central Tokyo. Kawai Campsite is a 7-minute walk from Kawai Station and offers overnight camping with lodges, log houses, tents and day camping. Reservations are required.
