Deriving its black waters from the peat and volcanic ash in the ground, Take no Yu is a local favourite on the onsen scene, with a refurbishment in 2011 making it a modern gem.
In business since 1913, it was officially licensed as an onsen in 2002 and is known for softening and smoothing skin. The dark water and beautifying properties have led to the nickname ‘Black Beauty Waters’ and to try them out you can pay the very pleasing 480 yen entrance fee or the 900 yen sauna and bathing fee if you’re feeling flush. You can rent towels for 200 yen and they also sell amenities such as razors and soap if needed. Since this is such a local spot, you would be better off taking your own items if you can.
Take-no-yu is open between 3.30pm and 11.30pm and is closed on Mondays and Fridays, regardless of holidays.
