Tokyo Solamachi is the shopping center at the base of the Tokyo Sky Tree. The name comes from a liberal (incorrect) romanisation of the Japanese word for sky, which is “sora”. So the shopping center is “Tokyo Skytown”.
The area at the base of the tower is quite bustling with lots of cafes and specialty shops along with the usual chains like KFC and Starbucks. There is also a Moomin Cafe and a branch of Hawaiian Hamburger chain Kua’aina.
The section of the Kitajukken-gawa canal in front of Solamachi has been cleaned up and beautified to give the area a pleasant waterside feel.
