‘Daradara’ means ‘endless’ — a name earned due to the extraordinary length of this traditional festival. While most shrine festivals go for two or three days, this one goes for 11 days — the longest of any traditional matsuri (festival) in Japan.
What happens?
Running from September 11 to 21 each year, the festival takes place at Shiba Daijingū (not to be confused with the more photogenic Zōjōji Temple) located next to Shiba Park.
Schedule
Although the festival spans 11 days, the main day is on Sunday, September 15, 2024. This is when the mikoshi (portable shrine) parade begins at 11 a.m. and continues till around 5 p.m. around the local area.
Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
