Geisha aren’t easy to find in Tokyo, so take this opportunity to see a free geisha dance performance in Tokyo’s traditional heart, Asakusa.
What to expect
Geisha are the traditional female entertainers of Japan, known for their unique dress and makeup. Originating over 250 years ago, they still exist today and are trained in performing arts like singing, dancing, and games.
At this event, you’ll get a chance to see them up close, as well as take part in games. If you’re good, you can even win prizes, like photographs with the geisha.
Schedule
The event takes place on Saturdays Apr. 12, Jun. 7, 14, 21, and Jul. 5 and 12. There are two performances each day, one from 1 p.m. to 1:40 p.m., and the second from 2:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.
Tickets
Although entry is free, you’ll still need a ticket for the geisha dances. They’ll be handed out from 10 a.m. at Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center on performance days and are one per person. We recommend lining up early since the event is popular.
