Roppongi Art Night (modeled after the famous “Nuit Blanche” festivals worldwide) has become one of the biggest art events.
What happens?
The event features amazing installation art, live art, and performances centered on the three points of the Roppongi Art Triangle — Tokyo Midtown, The National Art Center Tokyo, and Roppongi Hills.
Not only are the attendance numbers growing, but the scale of the event and installations, sub-events, and performances has also exploded.
Schedule 2025
Over three days, explore large‑scale sculptures, interactive works, and night‑time displays by both emerging and established artists. This year’s focus on Korea brings a cross‑cultural element, too.
Here are some highlights to look forward to:
- Kim Ayoung’s Delivery Dancers’ Ark: 0° Receiver is a giant LED-screen video installation that explores labour, technology, and identity in the digital age. It follows futuristic female couriers who deliver “time” instead of packages, blending sci‑fi imagery with a commentary on modern work culture.
- Im Ji‑bin’s EVERYWHERE Bear Balloon Project brings playful, squashed bear‑shaped balloon sculptures to unexpected spots throughout the city.
- TAGO’s Korean Drum Shaman delivers an electrifying blend of traditional Korean drumming, martial arts‑inspired choreography, and high‑energy acrobatics.
- Shimada Masamichi’s Birds Fly Around With You is an interactive light installation where walking through a large ring triggers bird sculptures to glow in sequence, creating the illusion of a flock in motion.
- Fong Chen Tsong’s Sailing Castle: Roppongi is a large wooden installation inspired by sailing ships, symbolizing journeys and encounters between different eras.
- Yamamoto Yu & Honey→B’s Yokai Encyclopedia: Roppongi Night is an immersive night‑time performance focused on mysterious Japanese yokai.
