The Spring Rose Festival at Kyu-Furukawa Gardens takes place between the end of April to the end of June each year. An Autumn Rose Festival is also held later on in the year.

The gardens are famous for an early 20th-century Western-style garden (including an extensive rose collection), a Japanese garden, and a large Western-style mansion.

What happens?

Along with the 200 roses and 100 varieties to view, there will also be a Spring Rose Concert on weekends and holidays, as well as a shop selling rose-related items — including ice cream.

Schedule 2026

The gardens open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission at 4:30 p.m.)

For two weekends, the gardens will open an hour earlier at 8 a.m. to allow visitors to enjoy the fragrance of roses in the cool morning air. These early openings will take place from May 8 (Friday) to May 10 (Sunday) and May 15 (Friday) to May 17 (Sunday).

Highlights

  • The Spring Rose Concert will be held on May 23 (Saturday – flute duo) and June 21 (Sunday – marching band), with performances at noon and 3 p.m. on the lawn plaza.
  • The Rose Garden Market will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the festival, offering rose-themed goods, gelato, and flower pots.
  • Garden guide tours will be held regularly, with sessions at 2 p.m. on weekdays in April and May, and at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. In June, the tours will run only on Saturdays and Sundays at the same times.
  • A dyeing workshop will also be offered during the festival, allowing participants to create cherry blossom-dyed scarves and handkerchiefs. Dates and details will be announced on the official website, with participation limited to 10 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admittance to the garden is free for children up to middle school age and ¥150 for adults. Senior citizens can get in for ¥70.
