Umeshu (plum wine) is one of Japan’s most popular drinks, known for its sweet and tart flavor.

What happens?

The National Plum Wine Festival is a touring event that takes place at various locations throughout the year.

With the festival heading to Funabashi this September, expect the cream of the crop from over 120 different types of umeshu. Brewers from all over Tokyo and wider Japan will exhibit local takes on the classic flavor. You can try Fukuoka umeshu cocktails or even an umeshu-flavored beer.

Tickets

You can purchase tickets in advance on the National Plum Wine Festival website or at the door. Both cost ¥1,900.

Schedule

The event takes place on the Tuesday and Wednesday public holidays of September 22 and 23, then takes a break and returns on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27.

How to get there

The festival will be held at Funabashi Racecourse, a 10-minute walk from JR Minami-Funabashi Station or 5 minutes from Keisei Railway Funabashi Keibajo Station.

Organizers may cancel events, alter schedules, or change admission requirements without notice. Always check official sites before heading to an event.
