The farmers market at UN University shifts into a laid-back after-dark hangout with food, drinks, and one-of-a-kind items. This week, the market has joined forces with Appetite, a foodie event with sake and craft beer pairings. Startup Lady Night Startup Lady puts on monthly events featuring forward-thinking conversations for female entrepreneurs and their supporters. Freedom Toast Café: “Taiwan recognizes same-sex marriage” Special guest speaker Suki Chung—the Amnesty International Regional Campaign Coordinator for East Asia—joins (via Skype) this regular Amnesty International event to discuss how Taiwan recently by passing a law to legalize same-sex marriage—all in a friendy environment. Downtown Drinks #39 Join the TC gang and fellow cheapos for a drink (or few) and casual mingling. While there are paid performances around the city, there are plenty of free ones at Yoyogi Park Friday through Sunday. Good Music Party in Sarushima: 10 Summer Days Rave to your heart's content at this summer music party on an uninhabited island in Tokyo Bay. "The Yosakoi" Oedo Soran Festival This yosakoi (a traditional summertime dance) festival, taking place at Kiba Park, will feature 45 competing dance teams. It’s a uniquely Japanese sight to see if you haven’t attended a festival of the kind yet. Museum of Modern Art – Free Admission Day The MOMAT houses mainly Japanese works of the 20th century including a number deemed ‘Important Cultural Properties’ or masterpieces—see it all for free this Sunday.
