Hiratsuka is a city in the coastal Shonan region of Kanagawa Prefecture. Chigasaki lies to the east while the city of Oiso is to the west. Hiratsuka Station can be reached in slightly under an hour from Shinagawa on the Tokaido Line.
The largest Tanabata festival in the Kanto region is held in Hiratsuka on a few days around the 7th of July of each year.
Like all of the Shonan region, Hiratsuka is renowned for its wide sandy beaches.
