What to expect

The Kewpie Mayo tour in Tokyo has become super popular — and for good reason.

Suggested Activity
Challenge Sumo Wrestlers and Enjoy Lunch
Eat, train, and fight like a real Japanese sumo wrestler during this sumo demonstration and authentic 'Chanko Nabe' (hotpot) meal.

On this tour, you’ll be shown around the “factory” (more like a museum), where you’ll learn how the popular mayonnaise is made, the history of the brand, and even how to properly store the bottle in the fridge.

Additionally, there’s a chance to sample different types of Kewpie mayonnaise in Kewpie’s Kitchen. The guide also shares ideas for recipes you can make using Kewpie mayo — chocolate cake, anyone? (Yes, you really can use it for that.) Along the way, you can spot hidden Kewpie mascots, play interactive games, and just have a great time.

At the end of the tour, you’ll be able to choose a free souvenir from several options — we recommend picking one that includes a miniature Kewpie doll. There’s also a small gift store where you can buy Kewpie food products and themed-goods, like a Kewpie bottle-shaped cushion.

  • Go inside the bottle.

Entry

You need to reserve a spot on a tour to get inside Kewpie Mayo Terrace. Luckily these tours are free, and often have an English-language option on the day.

There are usually three tours a day from Monday to Friday. The timings are 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. These times can vary though, so it’s always best to check the official website.

Note: The English-language tour has become extremely popular and reservations open one month in advance, so book early to get a place. We recommend doing that at least 3 to 4 weeks beforehand.

How to get there

The Kewpie Mayo Terrace factory is around a 5-minute walk from Sengawa Station on the Keiō Line, around 20 minutes from Shinjuku Station.
