Okutama

Okutama is a town in far-west Tokyo that is famous for its mountains and wilderness.

It’s technically Tokyo, but it feels like it’s further away than it actually is.

Getting there

Okutama Station is the terminus of the Ome Line which branches from the JR Chuo Line at Tachikawa Station. For those in a hurry and travelling on the weekend, there are three services of the Holiday Rapid Okutama (all departing in the morning) which run directly from Shinjuku Station to Okutama. The trip takes slightly longer than 90 minutes. The return journey runs along the same route (also three services a day on weekends—except it runs in the evening), but keeps running on the Chuo Line past Shinjuku all the way to Tokyo Station.

The one way ticket cost from Shinjuku to Okutama is ¥1,100. The Holiday Rapid is non-reserved, so the price is the same as regular trains.
