Yokosuka (横須賀) is a large city on the Miura Peninsula of coastal Kanagawa Prefecture located about an hour by train from central Tokyo.

It’s most well known as the location of a major naval base shared by the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force and the US Navy.
A large number of railway stations are located in Yokosuka. Yokosuka, Taura, Kinugasa and Kurihama Stations are on the JR Yokusuka Line while a further 18 stations are located in the city on the Keikyū Main Line and the Keikyū Kurihama Line.

For those interested in military history, you can visit the Battleship Mikasa museum housed in the salvaged battleship now on dry land. The ship is known for serving as Admiral Togo’s flagship in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 to 1905. The museum staff are in period costume and the entrance fee is 500yen.
