In a survey of readers on Tokyo Cheapo on the topic of favorite Japanese airport, Haneda came out on top with 49% of all votes cast. Coming in second was Narita with 33%, giving the two Tokyo gateways 82% of the votes.
Next most popular after the Tokyo airports was the famously sinking Kansai International Airport, with 7.4% of votes cast. Bringing up the rear were Sapporo’s New Chitose with 5.4%, and Fukuoka Airport with 4.5%.
While Narita is the more popular international gateway, Haneda has both a shiny new international terminal (opened in 2010), and a convenient location on the outskirts of Tokyo (Narita is in neighbouring Chiba Prefecture).
The survey was a self-selecting questionnaire on Tokyocheapo.com, which ran from January 9th until January 18th, 2025. A total of 1043 responses were recorded.
