If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, we’ve got two free fests that are sure to concoct a smile on your face.
First mention goes to the Ajisai (hydrangea) Festival, where thousands of hydrangea plants can be adored all over Tokyo until about mid-June. The best display of these flowers, in our opinion, is around the Hakusan Shrine in the Bunkyo Ward, with over 3000 of these beauty bundles just waiting to get their pictures taken.
The Vietnam Festival at Yoyogi Park event square is your alternative weekend freebie (Sat 13-Sun14). The highlight is the ao dai folk art performance that features beautifully designed and coloured traditional Vietnam silk tunics (starts at 10:00 am on Saturday). A whack of other musicians and dance acts of the Vietnamese persuasion will also perform throughout the weekend, so there will be no lack of entertainment. In addition, there will without a doubt be numerous stalls supplying Vietnamese food and drink. Remember to keep the peace though and refrain from correcting every person who pronounces ‘pho’ wrong.
