Nippori

Nippori (日暮里), or more correctly Nishi-Nippori is a neighbourhood of Arakawa Ward in the east of Tokyo. Nippori is criss-crossed by various railways including the Yamanote Line, the Keisei Line and the Joban Line with both Nishi-Nippori, Nippori and Mikawashima Stations in the area.

Apart from being a major transport hub (Nishi Nippori Station being the terminus of the Keisei Skyliner to Narita Airport), the area contains one of the last places in the capital from which Mt. Fuji can be seen without scaling a tall building. From Nippori Fujimizaka (Nippori Fuji Viewing Slope) a ‘Diamond Fuji’ can be seen twice a year on the 30th of January and the 11th of October. Diamond Fuji is when the sun rises directly above the peak of the mountain. 2013 may mark the last year that Fuji is visible as a major construction programme in nearby Shinjuku is predicted to obstruct the view.
