The site of an old water canal (built in 1653), Mitaka has always held an important role in Tokyo’s history. Today, the neighborhood is home to famous animation studios and some of the best research universities in Japan. It also straddles Inokashira Park, a perfect place for family picnics, dates and afternoon jogs with friends. For some of our more morbid readers, famous novelist Osamu Dazai is said to have committed suicide in this very neighborhood.
Mitaka Station runs on the Chuo Line.
