Yokohama Chinatown Lion Dance (Feb 16): Yokohama kicks off Chinese New Year celebrations this Friday with an impressive lion dance throughout the streets of its Chinatown. Watch as the ‘lions’ dance about, gobbling up vegetables and red envelopes (containing money) that are hung outside of shops and homes—all in the spirit of bringing good luck and prosperity. Chinese Traditional Performances (Feb 17-18): Continuing New Year celebrations, Yokohama will host various Chinese traditional performances starting Saturday. Traditional dragon and lion dances, along with songs, harps and acrobatics should be expected. Event takes place in Yamashita-cho Park (in Chinatown) at: 2:30pm-3:30pm | 4:00pm-5:00pm | 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Tokushima Tourism and Products Fair (Feb 18): For a taste of Tokushima (a prefecture in the northern part of Shikoku), head to Yoyogi Park this Sunday from 9:30am-4pm. Tokushima will be on display in terms of food, drink, artistic performances, exhibitors, products and more.
Live from the Kitchen Disco (Feb 18): There’s another killer line-up for this month’s free showcase of all the best talent in Tokyo. Featuring a combination of Japanese and international bands, you can be sure of a great night of music. There’s also a great menu with Indian food, beers and more beers—what more could you want?
Digital Choc (Feb 14-Feb 25): Since 2012, the Institut Français Tokyo organizes the media art festival “Digital Choc” in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Tokyo. Three works by young German artists will be displayed in the foyer of the Goethe-Institut. It is a critical discourse about the rapid advance of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, as well as a creative development of projection mapping techniques. The exhibition is free to enter.
