Tsukiji Market

Without a doubt, the Tsukiji Fish Market is listed, again and again, as one of the top things to do in all of Japan. And we cheapos are on board as it’s a cultural institution, good fun and free too! Plus, getting to witness the live tuna auction is a once-in-a-lifetime kinda thing. (Read here for everything you need to know before visiting the tuna auction.)

It’s also a hot spot to get you sushi fix—and you’ll get nothing but the freshest in the outer market area. Try Sushi Katsura or Tsukiji Maguroya Tokyo Honten for a cheapo-approved sushi lunch.

The countdown is on to see the fish market in all it’s glory though. It was announced in December 2017 that the iconic market will make a move to its new location at the Toyosu waterfront district on Oct 11, 2018. It’s not known if the tuna auctions will be open to the public after the move—our advice: go before Fall 2018 to avoid any disappointment!
