Guide to Seeing Sumo in Tokyo
Where and when to catch Japan's greatest wrestlers, without slamming too many yen.
Ryogoku is home to the National Sumo Arena (the Kokugikan) in which three major sumo tournaments are held each year.
The sumo theme continues in the surrounding neighbourhood with a large number of restaurants serving the sumo wrestler’s traditional favourite ‘Chanko Nabe’ – a hot pot of meat, tofu and vegetables.
You can get there via Ryogoku station on the JR Sobu Line and the Toei Oedo Line.
