If you live in Japan and have not yet experienced the phenomenon of karaoke, what is wrong with you? Oh, I get it. Watch out guys, we’ve got a badass over here! Captain Bummer of the S.S. Insipid thinks they’re too cool to sing Katy Perry with us. That’s okay. We’re fine, fresh and fierce without you. It’s more Gotye time for the rest of us while you’re off just being someone that we used to know. If you do happen to change your mind, we’ll be rocking the mic at Uta Hiroba, one of the cheapest karaoke joints around.

Uta Hiroba will literally let me sing A Whole New World to my hearts content, with drink bar, for the sweet price of 240yen per hour on a weekday. Prices jump after 6:00 P.M. to around 700yen per hour, and while that may be too rich for my blood, it’s way cheaper than popular places like Shidax that people always end up settling for just because the building’s flashier. In truth, all karaoke joints will be lower and higher depending on your location, day of the week and time, but Uta Hiroba is not only a safe bet on low rates, but it is popular and abundant enough to always be around when karaoke fever hits.

That is unless a Karaoke-kan is in the area, which has the cheapest rates of all the karaoke chains. Unfortunately, the drink bar at Karaoke-kan isn’t included in the price of a room like it is at Uta Hiroba. Thus my love for melon soda will always sway me towards the stupid smiley face.
