Tokyo events for Monday, December 23 to Sunday, December 29, 2024.
Christmas is here and that means the end of many Christmas markets around Tokyo.
Some New Year’s celebration events will take their place, including parties and fireworks.
Karaon Fest: Anime Karaoke Festival
On the day after Christmas, forget carols, and sing along to the catchiest intros and outros of Japan’s top anime. Karaon Fest is an anime song karaoke festival in the heart of Shibuya. All are welcome — even those who can’t carry a tune — as VTubers and regular folks come together for a memorable night.

Candlelight: Christmas Pop Hits
Christmas is just around the corner, so warm yourself with these peppy Christmas hits. A string quartet will take you through some of your favorite Christmas pop classics. Take in the punchy performances while being surrounded by candles.
Winter Comiket
The focus of the event is dōjinshi — independently created and published manga — and cosplay. So given the thousands of amateur and professional manga artists in Japan, there is always an incredibly wide range of genres and styles on display.
Odaiba Rainbow Fireworks
This out-of-season fireworks display takes place every Saturday in December at 7 p.m. for five minutes. This year, there will also be an additional display on December 24. The fireworks are shot into the sky between Odaiba and the Rainbow Bridge — so there are some awesome photo opportunities.
Ryuichi Sakamoto Exhibition
Experience sound and sight fused together. The best works of the late composer and artist Ryuichi Sakamoto come to Tokyo’s Museum of Contemporary Art, showcasing his visions.
Countdown Japan 24/25
A four-day mega-party of Japanese rock ‘n’ roll, this is either your countdown dream or a New Year’s nightmare. Running since 2003, they usually boast over 188,000 visitors and more than 150 acts.
Last chance Christmas markets
The Christmas spirit is over in Tokyo once the day ends on December 25 and folks start preparing for the New Year holidays. That means all of the Christmas markets in the city will end then too. Here are some of the larger ones packing up:
