If you’re reading this, you already know that Halloween has morphed into an out of control street party in Tokyo. For some of the free street action, check our guide to Halloween in Tokyo. But if you’re looking for somewhere a little less public where you can kick back with friends or enjoy DJs (other than DJ Police) until the wee hours, here are some suggestions. Warning before you bite our head off, some of these ain’t super cheap!

Mother’s Halloween 2016

This is actually how it normally looks
This is actually how it normally looks

This isn’t your mother’s Halloween or my mum’s Halloween, this is Halloween at one of Shimokitazawa’s coolest bars—Mother. If you’ve seen the interior, you’d think it was custom made for Halloween. The event organizers claim it will “actually be scary”, so don’t blame us for the PTSD. Entry is free and you’ll get a “present” if you turn up in costume.

Date: October 29th, 6pm to October 30th, 5am

The venue is the Christon Cafe in Shinjuku – the same as for Tokyo Decadence Halloween the weekend before.
